Presently honouring 33 Gold Coast sporting champions, the Gold Coast Sporting Hall of Fame is Queensland’s first dedicated sports museum. Among those honoured are motorcycle champion Mick Doohan, rugby league legend Mick Veivers, surf lifesaver Trevor Hendy, and world surfing champion Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew. The hall houses an extensive collection of sporting memorabilia from as early as the 1930s and includes Queensland’s only official ‘Olympic Room’. The adjacent Gold Coast Bulletin Historical Building showcases historical images of early Southport, Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta. Here, newspaper archives go back as far as 1885 and you can view examples of early newspaper printing technology.
